MVPD arrests two men for drug offenses

EMPLOYEE REPORT

MONTE VISTA – On August 12 at approximately 12:17 p.m., officers with the Monte Vista Police Department conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, blue pills were discovered clearly visible next to the 53-year-old male passenger and were not in their original packaging.

The passenger threw away the packaging containing the pills after being identified by police to prevent the drugs from being discovered. After resisting arrest, he was transported to the Monte Vista Police Department and processed without further incident.

The 29-year-old male driver was also arrested and found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was also transported to the Monte Vista Police Department.

The 53-year-old male passenger is charged with suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance with intent to resell, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.

The 29-year-old passenger is being charged with suspicion of negligent drug offenses.

Monte Vista Police applied for a search warrant to thoroughly search the seized vehicle and its contents.

This warrant was issued by a 12th Judicial District Judge and a search of the vehicle resulted in a weapon and drugs being seized.

Over 140 grams of methamphetamine, over 60 grams of fentanyl and over 280 grams of marijuana were allegedly found in the vehicle. Additional charges have now been filed against the suspect, including:

  • “Special offense,” which makes possession a drug crime1 due to the enormous quantity of drugs seized.
  • Possession of a weapon by a previous offender, which is a Class 5 felony.

This was the second vehicle stopped by MVPD on August 12 and found to contain controlled substances.
