Man arrested for drunk driving after nearly colliding with police patrol car

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 42-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he was driving while intoxicated overnight on Evansville's east side.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers stopped a gray Ford SUV at the corner of Vogel Road and N. Congress Avenue for traffic violations.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff's officials said the driver, William A. Redmon, nearly collided with a sheriff's vehicle and crossed the center line twice.

According to an affidavit, officers noticed Redmon's eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.

When asked if he had had anything to drink, Redmon reportedly replied that he had had a few glasses of vodka.

Officers said Redmon failed several roadside sobriety tests and tested positive for .193 blood alcohol level on a portable breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit.

The sheriff's office said officers found a glass pipe with burn residue in his car.

William A. Redmon was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of driving under the influence (endangerment) and possession of paraphernalia.
