Person killed in accident on San Diego County Highway

One person was killed in a car accident on a highway in San Diego on Saturday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning on the transition ramp from northbound Interstate 15 to the eastbound lanes of State Route 78 in Escondido.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a railing had driven through an Acura sedan. The driver, the only occupant, died at the scene, the CHP reported.

The transition ramp was temporarily closed for inspection and repair.

The identity of the victim was not immediately available and the cause of the accident was unclear.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the accident to call the CHP at 760-643-3400.
