Fatal accident near Galva, Illinois leaves one dead and others injured

HENRY COUNTY, Illinois — Authorities say several people were injured and one person was dead in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in rural Galva, Illinois.

Officers with the Henry County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of Galva Atkinson Blacktop (County Highway 5) and N 500th Avenue at approximately 3:15 p.m. on August 16. According to the sheriff's office, several people were in two vehicles and required assistance. The nature of the accident was not disclosed.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to local hospitals for treatment. One person was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to Peoria, where he later succumbed to his injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The incident remains under investigation and the sheriff's office said more details will be released in due course.
