Isaac Ukwu injury update: Latest news on Detroit Lions defensive end

The Detroit Lions have been plagued with injuries in recent weeks. Another player suffered an injury early in the second week of preseason play against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the first quarter of the game, undrafted free agent defensive end Isaac Ukwu was blocked in the knee area and was shaken up, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

After being on the ground for a while, Ukwu was able to leave the field under his own power, albeit slowly. There has been no update on him since then and there may not be one until after the game as the Lions are not required to give injury updates during preseason games. We will update this article as soon as more is known.

Ukwu's injury is certainly notable after the freshman had a stellar performance in the first preseason game. The Ole Miss product recorded a sack and two pressures in his preseason debut.

“Ukwu has kind of caught our eye, and I feel like it's been that way since the end of last week,” head coach Dan Campbell said of UDFA. “You start to think, 'Man, he's got some talent for the rush.' It seems like he's making an impact every day on some pretty big plays. Sacks, pressure.”

Ukwu is not the only undrafted free agent defensive end to suffer a recent injury. Nate Lynn, who also had a stellar performance in the first week of preseason, also suffered a season-ending injury in this game.
