NEW YORK – A Queens man was arrested after allegedly posing as an MTA employee and live-streaming his activities.

In a post on X Friday, the New York Police Department stated: “When a man posing as an MTA employee with a fake ID and bragged about his dangerous adventures while LIVE streaming on social media, your NYPD Transit SOD Special Projects officers were quick on his trail and caught him. These highly trained, sharp-eyed officers ensure that those who pose a threat to the safety and operations of the subway system are tracked down and brought to justice.”

The NYPD did not provide further details about the suspect's “dangerous adventures.”

Police released a photo of a T-shirt, hat and orange vest with the MTA logo on it, along with a tool belt that had a walkie-talkie and a flashlight with an MTA sticker on it, among other things. They also released a photo of what appeared to be a key card that said “NYCT MetroCard Temporary Transportation.”

An MTA spokesperson issued the following statement in response to the arrest:

“Impersonating a public transit employee and wearing a uniform while entering restricted areas without proper authorization and training is a serious crime that can endanger real subway employees, the public and emergency responders if something goes wrong. This is not a reality show and we are grateful to the NYPD for their excellent investigative work in giving this wannabe a more fitting costume – handcuffs.”

According to police, Israel Santiago, 62, of Ridgewood, was arrested on several charges, including identity fraud, trespassing, possession of burglary tools and forgery.
