Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar files complaint with FIA over leaked video

LAHORE – Noted playwright and screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar on Thursday filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), accusing a ‘honeytrap’ gang of posting compromising videos of him on social media.

According to Qamar, earlier this month a woman lured him to her house under the pretext of discussing a new theater project. Shortly after his arrival, armed men entered the house and attacked him. He was reportedly only allowed to leave after paying a substantial ransom.

In his complaint, Qamar alleged that the suspects blackmailed him and extorted a large sum of money from him. He claimed that the perpetrators lured him to their location and recorded compromising videos of him and posted them online when he refused to pay the extortion demands.

Qamar also mentioned that the alleged discussion about a soap opera never took place as planned. He noted that his reputation was badly damaged after the inappropriate videos were released.

Officials from the FIA’s Cyber Crime Cell have confirmed receipt of Qamar’s complaint and indicated that an investigation would be launched soon.

Qamar also reported the incident to Sundar police station in Lahore following the alleged abduction on July 21.

The investigation led to the arrest of Amina Urooj and 11 others. The alleged leader Hassan Shah was arrested on Tuesday. The videos in question contained footage of Qamar and the gang members involved in the alleged kidnapping.

One of the leaked clips not only shows the inappropriate videos but also the gang setting up their trap and setting up a camera to capture the encounter with Qamar. In the footage, Urooj and Hasan Shah are seen sitting on the same sofa where Qamar was sitting, moments before armed men barged in, attacked him and later drove him around and robbed him of his valuables. The culprits are said to have left Qamar in a remote area after their demands were met.
