Man arrested after attempting to shoot security guards at unregistered Antioch bar: police – NBC Chicago

A suspect was arrested after attempting to shoot security guards at a bar in a north Antioch suburb Friday night, authorities said.

Ronald Owens, 37, was charged with aggravated illegal possession of a weapon by a felon, two counts of aggravated illegal possession of a weapon and not having a firearms license or a license to carry a concealed weapon. A second person, Edwin Roddy, 42, of Waukegan, was charged with assault.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers with the Lake County Sheriff's Office were called to the 27800 block of West Grass Lake Road for a report of a man with a gun. Officers arrived and quickly found and arrested two suspects, police said.

Authorities determined that Owens, 37, of Lisle, and Edwin Roddy, 42, of Waukegan, had previously been ejected by security for disturbing the peace. The men then walked to a car in the parking lot and returned to confront security guards.

Owens, who returned with a firearm, pointed the gun at security guards and fired several times, but the gun malfunctioned and did not fire, officials said.

The two went back to the vehicle and met up with other people they were with, police said. Owens then put the gun back in the vehicle and the other people left the car.

Owens and Roddy tried to enter the bar again, but were both stopped by security. Roddy then punched one of the security guards, police said.

Both were quickly tracked down and arrested by the police.
