Circleville schools adjust ticket prices under new legislation

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio, August 16, 2024 — Effective immediately, Circleville High School and Middle School will implement new ticket prices for sporting events in response to recent changes in the law. The adjustments are a result of House Bill 137, which requires that student ticket prices be set lower than those for adults.

According to the Mid-State League's new policy, admission prices for high school and middle school sporting events must now conform to the following rate structure:

  • Events at secondary schools: Adults – $7, Students – $6
  • Middle school events: Adults – $5, Students – $4

The following updated ticket prices apply for Circleville High School and Middle School:

  • Circleville High School Events: Adults – $7, Students/Seniors – $5
  • Circleville Middle School Events: Adults – $5, Students/Seniors – $3

Please note that student and senior tickets cannot be purchased in advance online. These tickets must be purchased in person at the entrance either with cash or credit card.

The policy change is in line with the recent passage of House Bill 147, which includes provisions introduced by Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) to standardize ticket prices across Ohio. The new legislation addresses issues from last year when the Ohio High School Athletic Association increased ticket prices for cash payments. Senator Wilkin, who sponsored House Bill 181 – a key component of House Bill 147 – expressed his support for the change, stating, “This bill will ensure fair pricing and equal treatment for all patrons, regardless of their payment method.”

House Bill 147 updates the definition of qualifying schools and organizations, enforces uniform pricing standards, and ensures that student tickets to school-related events are less expensive than adult tickets.
