Sean McVay may have given a hint about his possible successor at the Rams preseason game

The Los Angeles Rams sideline will look different in this Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers.

Head coach Sean McVay has decided to let assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant lead the team against the Chargers, noting that Pleasant has “earned” the right.

“He's earned that right and it's more about going through some of the processes – meeting with the officials, sorting out some of the different things related to timeouts and being able to communicate with both sides.”

As for McVay's location, he will keep an eye on the action from the team's coaching booth. (Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that McVay would be in the announcer's booth. Rams fans may know that whenever there have been reports that McVay might retire or is considering retirement, becoming a broadcaster has usually been mentioned as the next step in his career.

McVay became the Rams' head coach in 2017, just his second year after moving from St. Louis to Los Angeles, and immediately turned them into a Super Bowl contender. They went 11-5 in his first year, and in McVay's second year on the job, the Rams made their first Super Bowl appearance since the early 2000s.

In McVay's fifth year in office, the Rams won the whole damn thing and gave the franchise its second Super Bowl title. After that Super Bowl win, the rumors of McVay's retirement came to light and thankfully, it seems like the Rams coach has changed his mind in the last year and is determined to stay with the team that gave him a chance.

While McVay is smart enough to spend time in the coaching booth, it might not be long before we really see him in the commentary space. We've seen guys like Drew Brees and Jason Witten end their careers, move into commentary, and lack the charisma it takes to be a commentator.

Hopefully he will decide to remain the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams for many years to come, but at least it looks like another branch will soon grow in his coaching family tree.
