Baltimore City deputy sheriff arrested in Ocean City: police

A Baltimore City sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence on Coastal Highway, Ocean City police said Saturday night. Nicholas Blendy was arrested on Coastal Highway around 2:05 a.m. Thursday morning after police found him on a public road within city limits in possession of an open bottle of National Bohemian Beer, according to his charging documents. The officer who arrested Blendy said they were completing an unrelated traffic investigation when they noticed a black Ford Explorer speeding. The officer said Blendy was driving 47 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone along several roads along the highway.Charging documents say Blendy zigzagged down Coastal Highway and drove in multiple lanes for at least a block.When police stopped Blendy, he admitted to drinking four beers before driving, charging documents say.“I searched the Ford and found a can of National Bohemian beer in the center console compartment. The top of the can was dented, allowing a person to drink the contents immediately from the can,” charging documents say.The charging officer also said Blendy had slurred speech, had bloodshot and shiny eyes and smelled of alcohol. Police also noted in the charging documents that Blendy “refused to submit to an intoxication test.” Blendy has worked for the Baltimore City Sheriff's Office since December, according to his LinkedIn profile. A Baltimore City sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on Coastal Highway, Ocean City police said Saturday evening.

According to his charging documents, Nicholas Blendy was arrested on Coastal Highway at approximately 2:05 a.m. Thursday morning after police found him in possession of an open carton of National Bohemian Beer on a public road within city limits.

The officer who arrested Blendy said they were in the process of completing an unrelated traffic investigation when they noticed a speeding black Ford Explorer. The officer said Blendy was driving 47 mph in a 35 mph zone along several streets along the highway.

The charging documents say Blendy drove in a zigzag pattern along Coastal Highway, crossing multiple lanes for at least a block.

When Blendy was stopped by police, he admitted to drinking four beers before driving, the indictment says.

“I searched the Ford and found a can of National Bohemian beer in the center console compartment. The top of the can was dented, allowing a person to immediately drink the contents from the can,” the charging documents state.

The prosecutor also said Blendy had slurred speech, bloodshot and shiny eyes, and smelled of alcohol. Police also noted in the charging documents that Blendy “refused to submit to an intoxication test.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Blendy has been working for the Baltimore City Sheriff's Office since December.
