Chicago man arrested after chase and burglary in Washington County

A 41-year-old Chicago man was arrested following a burglary and chase in Washington County on Aug. 17, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said they were called to a residential burglary in Addison around 2 a.m. The homeowner stated the intruder was inside her home and fled in a vehicle. A deputy saw a vehicle with an Illinois license plate traveling south on Highway 175 at about 90 mph when they arrived. The sheriff's office said deputies then began a chase. The Slinger Police Department later successfully deployed stop sticks. The chase ended near Highway 175 and Pioneer Road in Polk. The sheriff's office said the driver surrendered without further incident. Evidence collected at the scene, including Ring video, confirmed the suspect was the 41-year-old Chicago man who unlawfully entered the Addison home. The man gained entry to the home by breaking and smashing a window on the side of the building. Nothing of significant value was stolen, but the man was found with stolen items. The man has no connection to Washington County or the homeowner. He is currently being held on burglary charges. The Washington County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is still investigating the incident. “The quick response of our deputies and our local partners demonstrates our commitment to keeping Washington County safe,” said Sheriff Martin Schulteis. “Thanks to the quick actions of our deputy and Slinger Police Department, we were able to apprehend the suspect without further incident. The teamwork and vigilance demonstrated were critical to the efficient resolution of this case. While the investigation is ongoing, I want to assure our community that we are committed to ensuring justice is served for the victim and our communities remain safe.”

Slinger police later successfully deployed stop sticks. The pursuit ended near Highway 175 and Pioneer Road in Polk.
