San Diego man arrested after fatal car crash in Logan Heights

At 3 a.m. on August 1, the victim was crossing a marked crosswalk at the intersection of National Avenue and 28th Street in the Logan Heights neighborhood.

SAN DIEGO – A 31-year-old San Diego man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 49-year-old woman, authorities said Saturday.

According to San Diego police, the victim was crossing a marked crosswalk at the intersection of National Avenue and 28th Street in the Logan Heights neighborhood at 3 a.m. on August 1.

“While crossing the street, the woman was struck in the crosswalk by a vehicle turning left onto 28th Street from National Avenue heading west,” the agency said in a statement. “After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene. The woman sustained serious injuries.”

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died shortly afterwards, police said.

The suspect's vehicle was identified as a white 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver, Erick Rios, turned himself in to traffic investigators at 12:15 p.m. Friday. He was booked into the county jail on charges of negligent driving and hit-and-run, police said.
