Bruno Fernandes provides a huge boost to Manchester United after a new injured player appears

Manchester United hope to have Bruno Fernandes back in the starting line-up for the match against Arsenal.

The club's captain was sidelined with an injury during Monday's defeat to Crystal Palace, but has now started training again, according to Erik ten Hag.

There were fears that Fernandes would not be ready for Sunday's game at Old Trafford after his fitness status was not mentioned in United's midweek update.

However, it has now been confirmed that both the Portuguese midfielder and Scott McTominay are training to face Arsenal.

United will, however, be without Mason Mount for their match against the Gunners after suffering a fresh knock. It has been a turbulent debut season for the England midfielder, who started in Fernandes' place in the 4-0 defeat to Palace last time out.

Ten Hag told MUTV: “It’s a small problem.

“So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a few days and then he'll be back. Maybe Newcastle is too short, but I think he can be available for Brighton. [on the final day].”

Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have already announced that they have intensified their comeback.

Rashford is expected to be in the squad this weekend, while Martinez will likely have to wait until the FA Cup final against Manchester City after missing several weeks with a calf problem.

Ten Hag said: “Rashy obviously trained this morning as well and we have to see how he recovers. But I think it looks pretty good and I hope he can do the next training tomorrow and then we'll see if he's available for Sunday.”

He added of Martinez: “Yesterday Licha came to me and wanted to play against Arsenal on Sunday. But he is not ready yet, he still needs a little bit of time to go through the process, but he is so desperate.”

Ten Hag also spoke on Friday of his hope that Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw will be fit for the Wembley game at the end of the month.

The United boss said: “Luke Shaw also had a setback in his trial but there is still hope and he will fight to be ready for the final.”
