Joliet's worldwide fame: Aykroyd, Belushi Rock Prison: 24 photos

JOLIET — Although Saturday night was Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi's last concert together as the legendary Blues Brothers, the Hollywood giants still said goodbye with a bang, delighting some 5,000 fans with a rousing performance behind the limestone walls of the world-famous Old Joliet Prison. This was the place where Aykroyd and Belushi's late brother John performed as Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues, the legendary Blues Brothers.

The Saturday night concert featured another headliner, Bones Malone. Ronnie Baker Brooks and Curtis Salgado were also invited on stage to perform at the Blues Brothers concert, which began around 9:30 p.m. and ended at 11:00 p.m.

People from 11 different countries bought tickets and traveled to Joliet for the historic event on Saturday evening.

Joliet Patch covered the entire event and produced a total of 11 different Facebook Live videos, including an interview with Aykroyd and Belushi on Saturday afternoon.

Last year's Blues Brothers convention was canceled because of the Hollywood workers' strike, so Aykroyd and Belushi returned to Joliet on Saturday for the first time in two years.

The editor of Joliet Patch asked them what it was like performing as the Blues Brothers in 2022.

“So, beautiful evening, everything was well lit and the temperature was great. We danced like crazy.”

“What makes tonight so spectacular is the closing of this chapter in the history of the Blues Brothers, because we just lost Judy,” Aykroyd told Joliet Patch. “Judy Jacklin, who married John (Belushi). Without her creative input, the Blues Brothers as we know them would not exist. She was fully involved in everything that was done, designing uniforms, writing the book, the history book on the Blues Brothers.”

“She was our true blues sister and in our thoughts this concert tonight is a tribute to her. I think for many of us this is the closing of a chapter… I'm sorry she's not here anymore. She wanted to be here but she hung on for four years while battling health issues.”

“But Luke, her son, is here and he will pay his last respects,” Jim Belushi stressed.

“So we celebrate it tonight in heaven and it will be felt everywhere,” Aykroyd added.
