Victim “knew too much”? Colleagues point to “Big Fish” theory

The rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has sent shockwaves across the country, with doctors organising protests and walking off the job demanding swift justice for the victim.

The body of the doctor in training was found in a seminar room at the hospital on August 9. The next day, a volunteer was arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.

As people across the country protest against the gruesome rape and murder case, it is now being claimed that the victim was murdered because she “knew too much.”

“We suspect that this was not a simple case of rape and murder? She was the target of the attack. How did the volunteer know that she was alone in the seminar room at that time?” Hindustan Newspaper quoted a colleague of the victim as saying that Sanjoy Roy could be part of a conspiracy hatched by “a big fish”.

Another colleague informed the publication about rumors that there had been a possible drug scam in the victim's department, which she had tried to uncover.

Shortly after the murder, the doctor's parents told police that the doctor may have found out something she was not supposed to know, citing the enormous work pressure she had always complained about.

Meanwhile, CBI officials have summoned former principal of state-run RG Kar Medical and College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh to appear before them for questioning for the third consecutive day as part of their investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor.

Ghosh, who was questioned for nearly 13 hours on Saturday, from 10 am to after midnight on Sunday, was asked to come back this morning as CBI investigators had several more questions for him, an official of the probe agency said.

“The former headmaster has been asked to come back today at 11 am. We have a list of questions for him,” said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official. PTI.

The former headmaster had resigned from his post two days after the doctor's body was found. He had expressed fear of an attack, and his lawyer had sought protection from the Calcutta High Court.
