Rape and murder of a doctor in Calcutta: Protests and interrogations by the CBI continue

Non-essential health services in West Bengal were affected for the tenth consecutive day on Sunday as junior doctors in government hospitals continued their strike demanding justice for their colleague who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The protesting doctors and citizens are demanding swift justice and the release of the victim's autopsy report. The body of the junior doctor was found in a hospital seminar room on August 9. A volunteer was arrested the following day for his alleged involvement in the crime.

Since the outpatient clinics are closed on Sundays, patient traffic is lower, but senior physicians continue to deal with emergencies and provide care.

The CBI, which is currently investigating the case, will question former director of RG Kar Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh for the third consecutive day on Sunday, media reports said.
