Woman arrested for shooting in Jasper | Joplin News First







JASPER, Missouri (KOAM) – At around 3 a.m. Friday, Jasper County 911 received a report of a shooting at 606 E. Maiden in Jasper, Missouri.

Jasper County Sheriff's Deputies, Jasper Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance responded. Jasper Police were notified and upon arrival: “found a man in the front yard of the house suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. A woman was found in the residence.”

According to the court documents filed, the woman in question: Summer Closer appeared extremely intoxicated and erratic. Closser became angry and got into an argument with the man (her boyfriend) and pulled out a firearm. During a physical struggle between the man and Closser, Closser fired the firearm, striking the man.
Closer tried to cover up the shooting by putting her hand over the man's mouth and telling him to say it was an accidental shot.
Closer was arrested for second-degree domestic violence and unlawful use of a weapon.
After his arrest, Closser got into an argument with officers, refused to cooperate, and became violent. Closser attempted to escape custody by freeing one wrist from the handcuffs and kicking the patrol car door, causing damage.
Closer was charged with attempted escape from custody (a felony) and criminal damage.
The male victim was taken to Mercy Joplin for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Investigators tell KOAM Closser that due to the presence of children, charges of endangering the welfare of children could be brought against him.
