Samuel Sharpe killed in boating accident in Maine – NECN

A 23-year-old man died after a boating accident on Friday evening near South Harpswell in the state of Maine.

The state's Department of Marine Resources said it is investigating the fatal accident on a pleasure boat that occurred around 7:50 p.m.

According to the Maine Marine Patrol, Samuel Sharpe, 23, of Harpswell, fell from a 19-foot center console boat while underway. Based on observation of his injuries, Sharpe appeared to have been struck by the boat's propeller.

Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident pulled him from the water and brought him to the shore at Potts Point Landing in South Harpswell, where rescue workers attempted to save his life. However, Sharpe succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard secured the boat and the Harpswell harbormaster brought it to shore.
