Calcutta doctor's rape and murder case: CBI desperate to know former hospital director's call details and interrogates him for third day

CBI investigators are examining the call details and chats of former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh in connection with their investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor. Ghosh, who appeared before the CBI officials for the third consecutive day on Sunday, was asked to give details of the phone calls he made before and after the incident at the hospital, an official of the central investigation agency said.

Investigators are also considering contacting the mobile operator to find out details of Ghosh's phone calls and data usage, he added.

The former school principal, who was interrogated by agency officials for over 13 hours from Saturday until after midnight, arrived at the CBI office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake at 11 am on Sunday.

“We have a list of questions for him,” the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official told PTI.

Ghosh was asked to explain his role after receiving the news of the doctor's death, who he contacted and why he kept the parents waiting for nearly three hours, he said.

The former principal, who had ordered renovation of the rooms near the seminar room in the hospital's emergency building after the incident, was also questioned. “We are trying to find out if there was any conspiracy or pre-planning for the crime. What did the principal do and whether he was involved in the incident in any way,” the official said. The CBI investigators will compare Ghosh's answers with the versions of other doctors and interns who were on duty in the pulmonary department along with the deceased doctor on the night of the incident.

So far, the CBI has questioned over 20 people as part of its investigation, including some officials of the Kolkata Police.

Ghosh declined to answer questions from the media as he left the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake after midnight on Sunday.

As part of their investigation, CBI officials questioned Ghosh first on Friday and then for about 13 hours on Saturday.

The former headmaster had resigned from his post two days after the woman's body was found on August 9. He had expressed fear of an attack, after which his lawyer sought protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court directed him to approach a single court.

The body of the trainee doctor was found in a seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The next day, the police arrested a volunteer in connection with the case.
