“School bus drivers wanted”: OCPS hosts job fair for transportation services

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – The first week of classes may be over, but the work continues at Orange County Public Schools.

On Monday, August 19, OCPS will host a job fair to recruit approximately 100 school bus drivers.

“The driver shortage is not just in Orange County. It's nationwide. We're all struggling to find bus drivers, qualified bus drivers,” said Bill Wen, executive director of OCPS Transportation Services.

According to the district, a memorandum of understanding has been signed to provide bonuses of up to $8,000 for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.

District officials said these are additional bonuses available to current and new bus drivers.

Additional benefits include:

  • Paid training to obtain a CDL license

  • Free private health insurance

  • Retirement packages through the Florida Retirement System

  • Benefits package valued at $21,513

  • Uniform program for bus operators and mechanics

  • No weekend or night shifts

  • Paid vacation and 10 sick days

  • Additional excursions if desired

  • Newer school buses

  • Seven locations

Monday's job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hanging Moss Compound, 6721 Hanging Moss Road, Orlando, FL 32807.
