Arguments for Randy Orton to shock Gunther at WWE party in Berlin | News, results, highlights, stats and rumors

When WWE comes to Europe for the company's first PPV and livestreaming event, taking place in Germany, Gunther will be tasked with defending his World Heavyweight Championship against future Hall of Famer Randy Orton.

After reportedly extending his contract with WWE until 2029, according to Fightful Select, letting the veteran leave Germany with the gold would be a big step and would send wrestling fans into an uproar.

Since his debut in NXT UK, Gunther has been arguably the most protected Superstar on the entire roster, and his rise to the top of the card was complete following his victory over Damien Priest at SummerSlam.

What better way to keep your character fresh than to put him through adversity on a show where the champion has the home advantage?

The match between Gunther and Orton comes with the stipulation that if the challenger wins, they'll move to Raw while Gunther moves to SmackDown. With Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Championship likely to dominate the blue brand this fall with Reigns' return to television, a change of pace would be best for everyone involved.

And Orton has a legitimate argument with Walter. The world champion not only talks about the Viper's past mistakes and drags the Orton family's name through the mud, but also loses the final of the King of the Ring tournament to Walter, who lands on the mat with his shoulder.

Triple H and WWE Creative executed the story notes much better than the previous regime. The questionable pinfall not only opened the door for the World Title rematch in Germany, but potentially set the stage for The Viper to win his 15th World Championship.

With Orton's victory, he could immediately take over the role of top dog on Raw and lay an excellent foundation for the red brand's move to Netflix in January.

As for SmackDown, Gunther would bolster the blue brand's roster as it prepares to move to the USA Network. The Ring General could eventually face Cody Rhodes, taking the title from the American Nightmare and setting the stage for Roman Reigns to reclaim the belt.

Although Gunther is much more than just an interim champion, a brief run with the undisputed WWE Championship would add more credibility to his character, and a loss to a real star like Reigns will not negatively affect his standing with fans.

Furthermore, the interest generated by the shocking outcome would likely have fans tuning in to the weekly programme to find out how and why Gunther lost the title. Unfounded speculation in the gossip tabloids about injuries or behind-the-scenes drama would surely have followed.

It's almost certain that Gunther will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Orton in Germany, but isn't it wonderful to imagine the chaos that would ensue in the WWE Universe if he were to lose? It's chaos.
