Angel Gomes recovers from head injury in Lille-Reims

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes assured his fans on social media that he is fine after being hospitalized following a head injury during Saturday's Ligue 1 match against Stade de Reims.

Gomes, 23, was treated on the pitch for over 30 minutes after colliding with Reims midfielder Amadou Koné in the 11th minute. Gomes was carried away on a stretcher as fans of both clubs chanted the former Manchester United player's name.

Gomes posted a video on Instagram thanking the medical staff at the football club and the hospital and telling his fans that he had returned home after undergoing tests at the facility.

“Just a message to let everyone know I'm OK!” Gomes wrote in the caption. “The support has been overwhelming and I just thank God everything is OK, love and blessings!”

“PS Remind me to stop diving for headers.”

Lille club president Olivier Létang told French news magazine L'Equipe on Sunday that the test results from Gomes' hospital stay were “reassuring” and that the player only needed a prick on his lip.

Tiago Santos, Gomes' teammate at Lille, also criticised on social media the long time it took the emergency team to take care of Gomes after the incident.

“I and some of the players were very upset about the situation,” Santos wrote on Instagram. “It is unacceptable how long Angel was lying on the ground waiting for the rescue team and ambulance to arrive. I think something has to be done because something like this will not happen again.”
