Indiana prison nurse accused of stealing inmate's medication and narcotics – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A nurse at a southern Indiana prison has been handcuffed after being accused of stealing medications from patients and falsifying entries in the prison drug registry.

Tracy Davis, 53, of Waverly, Kentucky, was a registered nurse at the Vanderburgh County Jail in Evansville.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that jail staff became suspicious on Aug. 7 after Davis appeared “disoriented and confused” at work, and was believed to be impaired.

Investigators reviewed surveillance camera footage showing Davis removing Suboxone tablets from their usual area and placing them out of camera range.

Suboxone is a Schedule III narcotic used to treat opioid addiction. Investigators also said Davis made several errors on the prison drug registry.

On Thursday, drug agents spoke with Davis, who admitted to taking Suboxone. She was subsequently arrested for theft and possession of a Schedule III substance.

She was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on Thursday but released.

After her arrest, her prison security clearance was revoked. It was unclear whether Davis would lose her nursing license.
