Omah Lay talks about life lessons from his time in prison

Afrobeat star Stanley Omah Didia, also known as Omah Lay, has spoken out about the impact his imprisonment in Uganda has had on his life and music career.

Omah Lay and Tems were arrested and tried and later detained in Uganda for holding a concert at Speke Resort in Kampala on December 12, 2020, despite COVID-19 social distancing rules.

After spending three days in custody, they were finally released on bail.

In a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay mentioned that his time in prison changed his attitude towards freedom. He explained that his appreciation for freedom grew stronger after this experience and he expressed this feeling in all of his songs.

“After being in that cell for three days, I now love my freedom so much that I fight for it with every record… I don't want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but this has changed my attitude towards freedom,” said the “Soso” singer.
