Child pornography case against Logan man transferred to another court after presiding judge found all judges in district biased | News – KVNU

LOGAN — The child pornography case against a 39-year-old Logan man has been moved out of the area after a judge sent the case to 2nd District Court. Adam Gregory Skabelund was arrested after police raided his home more than a year ago while executing a search warrant.

Skabelund appeared in Logan 1st District Court on Wednesday, August 14. He was previously charged with three counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony, and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and obstruction of justice, all second-degree felonies.

According to an affidavit, Logan City Police began investigating Skabelund in 2023 after investigators tracked down several files of child pornography shared on a peer-to-peer network. The video and photo depicted the sexual abuse and exploitation of three different children.

The police were able to trace the material back to an IP address in Skabelund's apartment. They applied for a search warrant, which they later received.

Officers later served the search warrant to Skabelund's home. After several minutes of loud knocking and banging, police forced their way into the home and arrested the suspect.

Officers found numerous cell phones, laptops and PCs. Several hard drives appeared to have been removed from a nearby PC tower and hidden under a mattress, an affidavit states.

Police questioned Skabelund, who admitted that he heard police officers knocking on the door and announcing themselves. He reportedly confessed to removing the hard drives and attempting to hide them.

Investigators examined the contents of the drives and discovered a large amount of suspected child pornography. Some of the images and videos showed young children being raped by adult men and women.

During Wednesday's hearing, Judge Brian Cannell, the presiding district judge, pointed out that Skabelund's father, Greg Skabelund, is an attorney and regularly appears before all 1st District judges, saying this could create a conflict of interest.

Skabelund was released from prison after paying $10,000 bail. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Arrested and accused persons are presumed innocent unless their guilt has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
