Angel Gomes: Former Manchester United midfielder ‘all fine’ after head injury

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes says he is “back home and everything is fine” suffered a serious head injury during the Ligue 1 match against Reims on Saturday.

The 23-year-old London native was taken to hospital after a collision with Reims defender Amadou Kone, who was sent off for the foul.

There was a 34-minute delay as Gomes, who graduated from Manchester United's academy, received treatment on the pitch.

His club later said he was conscious and on Sunday Gomes added:, external “I am well looked after and feel comfortable.

“It was a crazy collision. These things happen, but the most important thing is that I'm OK.”

Gomes also thanked all the medical staff who treated him, as well as both fan groups.

Home and away fans chanted Gomes' name as he was welcomed to the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims.

“The support has been overwhelming,” added Gomes. “PS, remind me not to jump anymore because there are no more headers!”

Lille defeated Reims 2-0 in their opening game of the season.
