Pratapgarh:

A special court has convicted a man for raping his minor stepdaughter about five years ago and imposed a 20-year prison term and a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Assistant District Government Advocate (ADGC) Devesh Chandra Tripathi on Sunday said the court of Special Judge (POCSO Act) Parul Verma has sentenced the guilty stepfather Rakesh to twenty years in prison and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Devesh Chandra Tripathi said that the complainant in her complaint filed with the police had alleged that her husband Rakesh raped the 10-year-old girl under the cover of night in an intoxicated state on the night of September 9, 2019.

When she began to scream in pain, the plaintiff turned on the light and saw that her husband was allegedly trying to kill the girl by strangling her with a gas pipe.

The girl alleged that her stepfather had been sexually abusing her for three years. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections and after completing the investigation, filed a chargesheet in the court.
