McDonald's “Collector's Meal” cups fetch high prices on the resale market

Anyone wanting to get their hands on all six cups of McDonald's “Collector's Meals” released on Tuesday can already find them on online resale sites.

A complete set of mugs sold on eBay for $99. A single Hello Kitty-themed mug cost $25 plus shipping.

When McDonald's released information about the cups, it hoped to evoke nostalgia. Many referred to the meals contained in the cups as Happy Meals for adults. Judging by sales on the secondary market, there certainly seems to be a lot of interest, but not every customer who has bought a cup directly from McDonald's is satisfied.

“How do we go from this… beautiful, heavy, engraved glass,” asks TikTok user @littlemiss1stgrade, holding some of the fast-food giant's previously released collectible mugs before showing off the newly released ones. “To this one? Seriously? Like, I'm so disappointed.”

“I was about to go to McDonald's to get one. This changed my mind. Thanks, kind stranger from the internet,” wrote one TikTok user.

“Not only that, but the price of the meals to get a plastic cup,” replied another. “Insane.”

The medium-sized Collector's Big Mac costs $11.59 before tax, with the option to upgrade to the large size.

One TikTok user complained that cleaning the cup was an additional chore.

“They're not even dishwasher safe! I got them home and almost threw them out the window,” the user wrote in response to @littlemiss1stgrade's video. “I hate handwashing mugs more than anything.”
