Baltimore deputy arrested for drunk driving in Ocean City

A Baltimore deputy sheriff was arrested early Thursday morning in Ocean City for driving under the influence, police said.

According to charging documents, an officer observed a black Ford Explorer speeding and zigzagging between lanes. The officer then conducted a stop at Trimper Ave. and Coastal Highway and identified the driver as 44-year-old Nicholas Blendy.

During the stop, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Blendy's breath, his slurred speech and his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy, ​​the report states. The officer then conducted field tests, during which the driver demonstrated poor balance and an inability to follow directions.

Blendy admitted to drinking four beers before the trip and was subsequently arrested. The officer searched the black Ford and found a can of beer.

Blendy is listed as a deputy sheriff and legal counsel for the Baltimore Sheriff's Office. The office has not issued a statement or disclosed whether Blendy is still employed there.
