One dead and one injured in shooting Saturday in northeast Kansas City

One man was found shot dead and another injured after a shooting in northeast Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

At about 4:15 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Maple Boulevard in Pendleton Heights for a report of a vehicle leaving the area being shot at. A few minutes later, another call came in about a shooting at the corner of Smart and Bales avenues, where they found two male gunshot victims, according to Kansas City police spokesman Capt. Jake Becchina.

One victim was found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was outside and was last listed in stable condition at the hospital. Detectives in both areas were interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, according to the press release.

According to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings, this killing will be the 94th homicide in Kansas City in 2024. At this time last year, Kansas City had already recorded 130 homicides.
