Candidate for District Attorney promises to drop Young Thug case

A candidate for Fulton County district attorney is promising to immediately end the longest-running criminal trial in Georgia history if she wins the upcoming election.

Courtney Kramer, Fani Willis' Republican challenger in the race for Atlanta district attorney, is pledging to stop Young Thug's RICO case by force if she can defeat the incumbent prosecutor in November.

Kramer said she would use the office's resources on other more pressing issues, such as dealing with the mountains of rape kits allegedly sitting on shelves.

“With no justice in sight, I am deeply concerned and disappointed by the lack of prosecutorial oversight in this case,” Kramer said in the statement she posted on X. “Over time, the public witnessed a trial in which the attorneys were undoubtedly overwhelmed and repeatedly reprimanded for their lack of trial preparation: a complete waste of the court's time.”

Georgia District Attorney Candidate Vows to End Young Thug's Trial if Elected

Kramer goes on to point out that the new judge in the Young Thug trial, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, admonished prosecutors “for failing in their ethical and legal duty to disclose exculpatory evidence that might prove useful to the defense, one of the most basic requirements in the courtroom.”

The candidate claims the case was brought to give Willis fame, not to bring justice to the community, and that as a result, “endless taxpayer dollars” were spent on a prosecution that relied almost entirely on witness testimony of little to no credibility.

The YSL (Young Stoner Life) RICO trial is notorious across the country for its length. Jury selection began in January 2023 and is expected to continue well into 2025.

Young Thug, who has been incarcerated in Cobb County Jail in Georgia since his arrest in the summer of 2022, has been charged under Georgia's Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Prosecutors said they had sufficient evidence that the defendant operated a criminal organization that committed murders, car thefts, armed robberies, drug trafficking and other crimes.
