Sparks Police Investigate Fatal Car Crash on Spice Island Drive

SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV) — One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a car crash in Sparks on Sunday morning.

On August 18, at approximately 2:24 a.m., Sparks Police, Sparks Fire Department and REMSA responded to a report of a traffic accident on Spice Island Drive. Officers arrived on scene to find a single-vehicle crash with the driver and passenger still trapped in the vehicle.

The passenger was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition, while the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver's name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling north on Spice Island Drive at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked semi-trailer truck. Speed ​​and alcohol appear to have played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
