Woman shot dead in Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood, police said

An unidentified woman was shot early Sunday in Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood, police said.

She died around 2:42 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast 104th Avenue and Wasco Street. Police have not yet made any arrests.

The woman is the fourth female murder victim in Portland this year. In addition, 43 men have died in suspected homicides so far in 2024.

The total is slightly lower than the same time last year, when 53 people died by homicide. The downward trend reflects a nationwide decline, but Portland's homicide rate is still higher than it was before the pandemic.

Police are asking anyone with information about Sunday's homicide to contact Detective Brian Sims at [email protected] or 503-823-2079 or Detective Meghan Burkeen at [email protected] or 503-823-2092 and reference case number 24-208252.
