BMRCL conducts trial run on Nagasandra-Madavara route

The first dry run of the upcoming Nagasandra-Madavara Green Line extension (BIEC) took place on Saturday (17 August). The test, covering a distance of 3.14 km, marked an important milestone in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) project.

The test began at a cautious speed of 5 km/h and was then gradually increased to a maximum speed of 35 km/h. This first test is an important step to ensure the safety and efficiency of the line before it opens to the public. Further tests are expected in the coming weeks to fine-tune the system.

The BMRCL had earlier said that commercial operations of the 3.7 km extension of the Green Line from Nagasandra to Madavara in north Bengaluru are expected to begin in October.

This long-awaited expansion, which has been delayed for five years, will improve connectivity in the region.

The delays in this section of the Namma Metro project were primarily due to slow land acquisition processes, particularly in the NICE Road area, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The elevated railway from Nagasandra to Madavara will include three stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu and Madavara. This extension will also improve access to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Tumakuru Road, a major exhibition centre in the city.
