In the Twin Cities, Minnesota, violent crime reports declined in 2023 – InForum

ST. PAUL — The total number of reported violent crimes in Minnesota was lower last year than the year before, according to the latest data released Friday, Aug. 16, by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

In the seven-county metropolitan area, violent crimes, including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, fell 8.2 percent. In Greater Minnesota, violence fell 3.4 percent compared to 2022.

The number of car thefts fell by almost 38 percent.

According to the BCA, 180 hate crimes were reported in 2023. That is 12 more incidents than the previous year. And the number of police officers attacked has increased slightly.

The latest data for the city of Minneapolis shows that there have been 41 murders in the city this year through Thursday, August 15. During the same period in 2023, there were also 41 murders. The number of shootings is lower, as is the number of people who have suffered gunshot wounds.
