Video shows a house in North Carolina falling into the Atlantic

A dramatic video shared on Instagram shows a house in North Carolina falling into the Atlantic Ocean on Friday.

The house in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island is seen being torn from its wooden foundation by waves on the shore.

In the video, a loud crash can be heard as the house falls into the sea and is tossed back and forth by the waves.

The house was unoccupied and no injuries were reported when it collapsed Friday night, the National Park Service said in a news release. Officials at Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge are urging visitors to avoid the beaches around Rodanthe.

“In addition, all public access is closed from the northern border of Rodanthe to the north end of the Jug Handle Bridge,” the park service said. “Many other homes in the Rodanthe area appear to have been damaged. Hazardous debris may be present on the beach and in the water for more than a dozen miles.”

The collapse of the house on Corbina Drive is the seventh house collapse in four years on the beaches of the National Seashore in North Carolina, according to the service.

The service is in contact with the homeowner and will take care of debris removal if no other plans are made after high sea levels subside next week.

Beaches in the area have been closed until 8 a.m. Monday as a flood warning is in effect for the Outer Banks of North Carolina, including Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Ernesto brought dangerous beach conditions, including large waves and rip currents, to the East Coast this weekend.
