Two men arrested for involvement in intersection takeovers in Miami-Dade County, police say

MIAMI — Two men were arrested this weekend for their involvement in Crossing takeovers through Miami-Dade County, one of which ended in an accident.

On Sunday, Miami-Dade police said they had arrested Jake Edward Ross (22) and Jose Angel Espinosa (19) for their involvement in Acquisitions in August. Both men face a range of charges, including unlawful assembly, reckless driving, drag racing, fleeing from police and resisting arrest.

Miami-Dade police said the arrests were part of a Enforcement action “Intersection takeover” on Saturday. The arrests come one month after police new legislative changes surrounding intersections and road crossings.

Ross' arrest

At around 1:10 a.m. Saturday morning, an intersection takeover occurred at NW 183rd St. 2nd Ct. in Miami, where Ross was observed driving a white Chevrolet Camaro and doing donuts in the middle of the crowd.

A Miami-Dade Police officer then arrived at the pickup location in a marked patrol car and attempted to stop Ross' Camaro. However, Ross refused to allow police to pull him over and “fled the area at a high rate of speed,” sparking a chase, the affidavits state.

During the chase, the Miami-Dade Police Department's air unit came to the rescue and kept the Camaro in sight until it crashed near Weston Road and State Road 84. Broward County. Police soon arrived and arrested Ross and his passenger. Ross was then charged and taken to TGK without incident.

Espinosa's arrest

On August 5 at approximately 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of NW 215th St. and 47th Ave. in Miami Gardens, several vehicles blocked the intersection for a street takeover. According to affidavits, Espinosa was driving a black BMW 330i with a white bumper and drove into the intersection to sell doughnuts to the gathering crowd and filmed for social media.

The affidavit states that a video shared on Instagram shows Espinosa's BMW turning at the intersection, where Miami-Dade investigators could see him and Ross. On Sunday, Espinosa was found without incident and taken into custody.

At the station, a City of Miami Police officer spoke with Miami-Dade investigators and advised that he had seen the same BMW with donuts in a previous intersection takeover at NW 37th Ave 25th St. on May 18 and that he recognized the white bumper. Espinosa was charged and transported to TGK.
