OPD arrests driver and teenage passenger after chase and accident

Omaha police arrested two people Sunday after a chase that ended in a crash. Police said a large crowd dispersed near 20th and Vinton streets. Police said investigators saw a driver commit a traffic violation and attempted to pull him over. The driver sped away at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the driver to the Midtown Gas and Grocery at the corner of South 13th and Martha streets. They said he attempted to park at a gas pump, backed up and struck a parked car and a patrol car. Police arrested 21-year-old Juan Garcia-Martinez, who was fleeing to evade arrest and hit-and-run. They arrested a 17-year-old passenger on weapons charges. Police said a search of the vehicle found a gun.

Officers followed the driver to Midtown Gas and Grocery at the corner of South 13th and Martha Street. They say he attempted to park at a gas pump and backed up, hitting a parked car and a patrol car.

Police arrested 21-year-old Juan Garcia-Martinez on the flight to avoid arrest and hit-and-run charges. They arrested a 17-year-old passenger for weapons possession. Police say a weapon was found during a search of the vehicle.
