San Diego Padres lose game, series and Ha-Seong Kim in Colorado – NBC 7 San Diego

It was bad enough that the Padres lost 3-2 to the Rockies on Sunday afternoon, losing the series against a team that was 33 games under .500 when it traveled to Denver as one of the best baseball teams in the world. Worse still, the Friars had to watch their shortstop leave the field with an injury.

In the 3rd inning, Ha-Seong Kim suffered what the team calls a shoulder contusion when he dove back to 1st base on a pickoff attempt and left the field in obvious pain. He was replaced by Tyler Wade for the remainder of the game. Kim had just started to hit his stride at the plate and had a .367 batting average over his last 10 games.

It is not yet known how long Kim will be out. Manager Mike Shildt said Kim will undergo some imaging tests and will have a better idea of Kim's prognosis on Monday.

Kim's injury is the biggest headline of the day, and the loss ends San Diego's franchise-record streak of eight consecutive wins. Colorado scored the game-winning point thanks to an error by right fielder David Peralta, who botched a ground ball, allowing a runner to advance from 1st to 3rd base and score on a groundout.

But the day also had some positive aspects.

Joe Musgrove made his second start since returning from the injured list with a bone spur and looked really good. He pitched just 4.1 innings but allowed one run and struck out six, giving him more than 1,000 strikeouts in his career. Musgrove left the field after throwing 73 pitches and should be able to get closer to 90 in his next start.

The Padres are back home from their very short 3-game road trip to begin a 7-game home series against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night at Petco Park.
