LeBron James throwback video inspires Draymond Green to record his “best ever”

Even in the offseason, an ongoing bromance between Draymond Green and LeBron James continues. The Golden State Warriors star posted a story on Instagram reacting to a throwback promo video from James' first nationally televised game that compared him to some of the most iconic and legendary basketball players in NBA history.

Clips of all-time greats explained why these players were so great that you could recognize them by their individual first names (e.g. Kobe, Magic, Kareem, Oscar, Larry, Wilt, Michael, etc.). “LeBron” had the potential to be as good or better even in high school.

Green shared in his IG story that James did just that.

“You just had to be the best of all time to avoid being considered a failure. And in fact, it was [sic] I did it! Wow 🔥🔥🔥”

Considering how high those expectations were when James was just 17 years old, the former St. Vincent St. Mary's star proved them right in this game by dismantling Oak Hill Academy, then the No. 1 team in the country. James finished the game with 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

For James, it was a kind of revenge, because the year before, Oak Hill had beaten LeBron's team in a game that included future NBA star Carmelo Anthony on the opposing side.

In mid-August, shortly after James led the U.S. team to another gold medal adventure in men's basketball, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar took a short vacation with Green in Cannes, France. The pals were spotted laughing, singing, drinking and partying.

Earlier this year, Green criticized Skip Bayless for repeatedly criticizing James over the years.

“The biggest hater outside of the NBA is clearly Skip Bayless… I hope I can give him a soundbite for his show, because it’s dying… Like, there’s nothing [LeBron James] done to give you something to hate every day,” Green said on The Big Podcast.

Even as the two squared off in the postseason, Green made it clear what really matters when speaking to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.

“In the playoffs, none of that crap matters. Personal relationships are personal relationships. But you're part of a team and everyone is fighting for a common goal. If you get in the way of that, you get in the way of that. It all goes to waste.”

Given all the fireworks between the two on the pitch, it is nice to see so much mutual respect and admiration off the pitch as well.
