49ers updates: Jauan Jennings did not play due to an oblique injury

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the media after the game to provide some injury updates.

Wide receiver Jauan Jennings did not play due to an oblique abdominal muscle injury. Shanahan said he could not recall the specific injury, but it would not prevent Jennings from playing in the final preseason game next Friday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Linebacker Dee Winters suffered a bruised knee and was therefore unable to play in today's game.

Running back Jordan Mason had hip pain, so the team left him out.

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall's shoulder will continue to be monitored and his condition will be assessed on a day-to-day basis.

Running back Isaac Guerendo is expected to return next week after missing most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Kyle Shanahan explained his decision to play Brock Purdy:

“We just wanted to see him out there and get some reps. I had a good feeling about the guys that were there. I felt like Brock wanted to do it, too.”

When asked if Purdy will play next Friday: “Two frustrating drives. They were three and out. Just not enough plays. There weren't any real good prospects for him either.”

Shanahan mentioned that Purdy didn't get much playing time in preseason last year due to a UCL injury: “I think it helps Brock to play. I thought it would be good for him to get out there.”
