Noelle Quinn clarifies the situation after viral argument with Fever HC Christie in heavy defeat of Storm: “Lively conversation”

The atmosphere at tonight's Fever vs Storm game was really good, both on and off the court, literally. The hosts struggled to get past the visitors in the first half, which resulted in Caitlin Clark hitting the board and getting a technical foul. On the other hand, the 17,274 roaring Indiana crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse barely allowed the announcers to call the game. In the thick of it, however, were the HCs, also in top form. Noelle Quinn had a heated argument with Christie Sides in the final seconds, which she later explained.

By the time the game reached the one-minute mark, the Fever had already beaten Seattle and had no hope of a comeback. So Noelle Quinn ended up clearing her bench. All of her starting players left the court while her bench ran out the clock. But Sides didn't do the same. Reason? Apparently, the Fever head coach didn't realize what Quinn had done until the timeout was over. Still, she called another timeout and corrected her “mistake.”

In the final seconds, it seemed as if the two head coaches were approaching for a handshake, but it was the exact opposite and things got heated. But the argument was soon settled. In the post-game press conference, Noelle Quinn addressed the conversation. She said: “I respect Christie. I've been in this league for a long time and played for them in Russia. We just had a lively discussion about tactics. That's all.”

While the Seattle Storm head coach kept his post-game reaction cryptic, the two hugged at the end of the game. In the final quarter, the duo of Lexie Hull and Caitlin Clark won the game as they outscored the visitors by 16 points, preventing the Storm from surpassing them in the season. But Christie Sides also kept quiet about the argument.

You want to know what exactly the conversation between the two coaches was. Right? However, it looks like we won't find out anytime soon. In the Fever's post-game press conference, reporters also asked Sides about the topic. However, the Indiana head coach didn't give anything away either. She told everyone: “Big respect to Noelle. This remains between her and me.”

The head coach quickly diverted the conversation by saying: “But my goodness! The fans, the wins, we're just thrilled. The spirit in the hall, the energy in the hall today. 16,000 people, right, I think that's it tonight, so just a huge win for the Fever.”

Obviously, neither Noelle Quinn nor Christie Sides wants fans to know exactly what happened. While Indiana fans will have to miss out on this moment, they have a big reason to celebrate. The Fever now extend their 2-game winning streak at home against teams with a record above .500, showing how well prepared they are for the second half. Next up, the Indiana team will head to Minnesota to try and repeat their heroics from Game 1 against the Commissioner's Cup champions.
