Truck driver killed in accident between two semi-trailers on I-15

IRON COUNTY, Utah – One person died in a collision between two semi-trailers on Interstate 15 in southern Utah early Sunday morning.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on I-15 near mile marker 85, north of Parowan and Paragonah.

Both trucks were traveling northbound in the right lane when one of them struck the other from behind, UHP said. Then, for an unknown reason, the rear truck struck the first one, causing the rear truck to veer off the right side of the road and overturn.

The driver of the overturned truck died at the scene of the accident.

It was initially unclear whether the driver of the semi-trailer truck that was hit from behind had sustained injuries.

Coincidentally, this was the first of two accidents involving two semi-trucks on Utah's highways. Later on Sunday afternoon, two trucks collided, causing a fuel spill involving 5,000 gallons of fuel. Highway 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon was closed for several hours.
