Latest news and return dates for Takehiro Tomiyasu, Fabio Vieira and Kieran Tierney

Arsenal started the new Premier League season with a routine win against Wolves, easing their injury worries.

Jurrien Timber has endured a tough time since joining the Gunners last summer, missing most of his debut season due to a serious knee injury sustained on his debut which has limited his workload since then.

But when the Gunners won 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Timber came off the bench and watched the game to the end.

This would have been a welcome sight for Mikel Arteta, as three of his regular players are still working on getting fit again.

Here is the latest Arsenal injury news and return dates…

Fabio Vieira

Fabio Vieira has returned to training to work on his match fitness after sustaining a hip injury during pre-season.

The young midfielder missed 20 games last season due to injury but seemed to be returning to form before being forced to sit out the away game against Lyon in early August.

Although Vieira was able to take part in training with his teammates last week, he was absent from the Gunners' victory over Wolves in the opening match of their Premier League season.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, Arteta was positive about Vieira's progress, telling reporters: “We have now checked him after training to see how he is, but he seems to be adapting to it.”

Possible return date: August 2024

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Defender Tomiyasu has also struggled with his fitness in recent months and is currently recovering from a knee injury.

After the win over Lyon, Arteta told reporters that the Japanese international will not be out until next month at the earliest: “I think it will be weeks unfortunately and poor Tomi is so poor the way he does everything.”

“But he has to be patient and get through it because I think it will take a few weeks.”

When asked for an update last week, Arteta reiterated that it would be “a few weeks” before Tomiyasu was involved in the first team.

Possible return date: September/October 2024

Kieran Tierney

Tierney's future at Arsenal looks bleak after he was loaned to Real Sociedad last season and returned after Euro 2024 with a thigh injury.

Amid speculation that Tierney could move on again this summer, Arteta wants the left-back to focus on his fitness.

Last week he told reporters: “He has to focus on recovering as best he can, the last injury was a tough time for him again. We have to try to support him and make sure he gets fit again.”
