The autopsy report revealed that the victim had suffered serious injuries

What is the story

An autopsy report prepared by India today has shed light on the final moments of the junior doctor before she was suffocated at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The autopsy report revealed that the victim had suffered serious injuries before his death.

The report also contained evidence of forced penetration, suggesting that a sexual assault had occurred.

Autopsy shows over 14 injuries and suggests sexual abuse

The autopsy report documented over 14 injuries to the victim's head, face, neck, arms and genitals.

The cause of death was determined to be “manual strangulation combined with suffocation.”

The autopsy report also noted the presence of a “white, thick, viscous fluid” in the victim’s genitals.

“As indicated. A thick, white, viscous fluid is present in the endocervical canal and is collected as indicated above. Weight: 151 g.” News laundering quoted the report.

What Wt-151 gm means

The media regulator said it had spoken to autopsy experts who clarified that “weight – 151 g” referred to the weight of the vagina (the genital tract that connects the external genitalia to the cervix) removed from the victim’s body.

This refutes earlier claims by the victim's parents and media reports that 150 grams/milligrams of sperm were found on the victim.

Autopsy report finds bleeding, no signs of broken bones

There were also pulmonary hemorrhages and blood clots throughout the body. However, there were no signs of bone fractures.

To assist with the ongoing investigation, samples of blood and other bodily fluids have been sent for further analysis.

Sanjoy Roy, a volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested the day after the incident.

The Calcutta High Court later transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The case will be heard before the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
