Kamala Harris has stopped exercising outdoors because she feared that a 2021 video of her running down the steps of the Lincoln Memorial would highlight her age difference with Joe Biden.

A new profile of Harris portrays the Democratic candidate as a woman who was exceptionally respectful to Biden during the early years of his presidency – in contrast to the woman who easily secured the nomination after her boss's exit in 2024.

Harris, 59, received widely positive reactions to the video, which shows her running up and down the steps of the memorial with her husband, Doug Emhoff, with some viewers even comparing the masked routine to the famous montage in Rocky.

One fitness website said she “rocked a cardio workout,” and others praised her for “working for the American people” while still getting her workout in.

But Harris didn't like the flattery, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sources told the newspaper that she then began working out indoors for fear of putting her 81-year-old boss in a bad light.

The anecdote stems from a story that suggests that while the Biden administration did not denigrate Harris, it did not exactly promote her either.

Aides told the Wall Street Journal that it simply never occurred to them that Biden would not run for a second term.

It also suggested that Harris had not anticipated her role as so-called “border czar,” a title that neither the president nor his vice president ever claimed to have given her.

A person close to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff said Harris' husband described the role as punishment.

Others close to Harris say she finally found her way after the Roe vs. Wade decision was overturned in 2022.

The Supreme Court's decision allowed Harris to become the focus of the government's fight against the ruling.

Harris was catapulted into the race after Biden announced last month that he was abandoning his re-election campaign.

Although she performed poorly as vice president, Harris made a strong start to the campaign and is currently seen as a worthy opponent to Trump.

Aides claimed that Harris' reluctance to make Biden – now 81 and the oldest president in American history – appear his age prompted the vice president to switch to indoor training from that point on.

The latest Real Clear Politics polling average shows Harris leading Trump by 1.4 percent.

After the most prominent representatives of the Democratic Party spoke at the party convention earlier this week, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will accept his nomination for vice president in a speech on Wednesday.

The United Center has set the stage for the convention, which begins on Monday, August 18 and ends on Thursday, August 21.

Harris will close the event with her keynote speech on Thursday, followed by a balloon release.

Trump plans to flood the airwaves with rallies, press conferences and campaign events that will represent a massive counter-program to the DNC.

Trump will hold events in key swing states every day this week, and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, also plans to hold events in swing states on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – culminating in a rally on Friday.

Meanwhile, Trump's allies will hold press conferences each day of the convention at the Trump Hotel in Chicago, Illinois.

Republican surrogates coming to town for the convention include Senators Rick Scott (Florida) and Ron Johnson (Wisconsin), and Florida Representatives Byron Donalds and Mike Waltz. A “surprise guest” will be present at Thursday's press conference.

The first presidential debate between the two is scheduled to take place on September 10 in Philadelphia and will be moderated by ABC News.

The first vice presidential debate between Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Senator JD Vance of Ohio will take place on October 1 in New York City and will be moderated by CBS.
