Head-on collision in Olympia leads to road closures and major oil spill – KIRO 7 News Seattle

OLYMPIA, Washington – A head-on collision in Olympia left two people injured, road closures and the cleanup of a massive oil spill.

On Sunday, Thurston County Sheriff Sanders was on his way home when he and Nisqually Tribal Police encountered a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a car at the intersection of Rainier Road Southeast and Spurgeon Creek Road Southeast.

According to the sheriff, the car was traveling along Spurgeon Creek Road Southeast, ran a stop sign and collided with the pickup truck on Rainier Road Southeast.

Both the driver and the passenger in the car suffered head injuries.

Crews from East Olympia Fire District 6 responded to the call and rendered aid.

The driver of the pickup truck did not complain of any injuries.

“I’m sure he’ll be in pain tomorrow,” Sheriff Sanders said in a Facebook post.

Traffic delays occurred while the road was cleared and a large oil spill was cleaned up.

No word on whether the driver of the car was charged with ignoring a stop sign.
