Donald Trump complains about video of empty seats during his rally

In a heated exchange on social media, former President Donald Trump lashed out after a video emerged showing empty seats at his rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The video, posted by Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign account, @KamalaHQ, on X (formerly Twitter), claims that Trump's audience left the hall while he was “talking incoherent stuff,” leaving the hall partially empty.

The video shows people leaving a section of the hall along the side of the Trump rally where many seats are empty. The section appears to be behind the stage. Trump can be heard muffled in the background.

The video was captioned: “Trump's crowd leaves stage as he babbles nonsense in Pennsylvania, leaving even more seats empty.” As of Sunday, the video had been viewed 4.8 million times.

On his platform Truth Social, Trump denied the authenticity of the video on Sunday afternoon.

He claimed the footage was taken before the rally began and that the venue was indeed full, with thousands more supporters being turned away due to space constraints.

Trump accused Harris of spreading misinformation, called her a “corrupt radical left politician” and linked her to a broader conspiracy to remove President Joe Biden that also involved other prominent Democrats.

“We had to turn away a lot of people yesterday in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote. “Comrade Kamala Harris' social media campaign showed empty seats long before the rally began, early in the afternoon, when in reality we had to turn away 11,500 people!”

But the back and forth didn't end there. Late Sunday evening, Harris' campaign account fired back, claiming the video was recorded during Trump's speech.

“Americans are sick of your lies and slanderous delusions,” the account said. “It's getting… boring.”

This is an evolving story.
