Schenectady Police Investigate Albany Street Shooting

DOUGLASTON, Queens — Three men have been charged with kidnapping, burglary and other crimes after breaking into a house in Douglaston early Saturday morning and allegedly taking eight people, including three children, hostage. The Queens District Attorney's Office announced the charges Sunday, detailing the gruesome events that unfolded at a home on 247th Street.

According to the indictment, the suspects – Ryan Dash, 34, Brandon Dash, 39, and Jone Smith, 47, also known as Conrad Harrigan – all of Cambria Heights, entered the home at approximately 2:15 a.m. on August 17, 2024. The men, who were masked and armed with a handgun and hammers, allegedly forcibly entered the homeowners' bedroom, where the couple was sleeping with their one-year-old child. The defendants are accused of restraining the residents and demanding money under threat of violence.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called the incident a blatant violation of the victims' safety. “As alleged, these three defendants held a family of eight, including children, hostage while displaying a gun and two hammers,” Katz said in a statement. “These victims demonstrated incredible bravery in a burglary that resulted in a mother fleeing with her youngest child and calling 911.”

During the ordeal, a mother managed to escape the home with her toddler. She contacted police and prompted an immediate response. Authorities say the suspects stole more than $10,000 in cash before being arrested after an extensive manhunt in the area. The stolen money was recovered and the remaining hostages were released. Two of the adult hostages were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

The defendants appeared before Queens Court Criminal Judge Gonzales on Sunday evening to face a 24-count indictment, including second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, each of the men faces up to 25 years in prison.

The investigation, led by Officer John Adames and other members of the NYPD's 111th Precinct, is ongoing. The defendants are scheduled to appear in court again on August 22.

Assistant District Attorney Hugh McCann of the Career Criminal Major Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case under the supervision of Bureau Chief Michael Whitney and Deputy Chief Roni C. Piplani.
